A single infusion of a stem cell-based treatment may have cured 10 out of 12 people with the most severe form of type 1 diabetes. One year later, these 10 patients no longer need insulin. The other two patients need much lower doses.

Δεν είναι, σίγουρα, το μοναδικό σοβαρό ιατρικό λάθος που συμβαίνει. Αν υπάρχει πραγματικά ενδιαφέρον της κοινής γνώμης θα έπρεπε να ξεκινήσει μια γενικότερη συζήτηση με αριθμούς και στατιστικά.

Πολύ ενδιαφέροντα αυτά που αναφέρεις. Στην Ελλάδα δυστυχώς το να σκάει στα χέρια του τελευταίου κρίκου είναι ο κανόνας παρά η εξαίρεση. Στην προκειμένη περίπτωση δεν κατάλαβα γιατί το θέμα πήρε τέτοια διάσταση με παρέμβαση εισαγγελέα.

Και γιατί δεν αξιοποιεί τους μηχανισμούς ελέγχου και επιτρέπει σε "πονηρούς" παιδιάτρους να γράφουν 5 δόσεις εμβολίου κατά του πνευμονιόκοκκου (το Εθνικό Πρόγραμμα εμβολιασμού προβλέπει 3) ή 4 δόσεις ανεμευλογίας (προβλέπονται 2) και μάλιστα σε ηλικίες που δε συνάδουν;

I'll try and have a go at a few simple lessons learned, its quite sad these need to be repeated.

1) NPIs work.
2) If they are needed, the sooner they are implemented, the more lives saved, and the shorter they need to be.

Συμφωνώ, πρόκειται για μια συζήτηση που μόλις ξεκινά για ένα υπερβολικά πολύπλοκο ζήτημα με τεράστιες προεκτάσεις. Το να έχει κάποιος strong beliefs υπέρ ή κατά νομίζω οτι συνιστά υπεραπλούστευση που δεν προσφέρει σε κάτι.
