I am not 100% sure if this is an example of what you're talking about, but the Spotify AI voice cannot pronounce a single Spanish word or name. It's astounding that they haven't figured out something that seems so simple after all these years...

The march in Chicago has continued on past Trump Tower and is turning back south into downtown.

The snow is coming down hard now.

As it does, the column chants, "say it once and say it twice, we do not fuck with ICE"

The post outlines YDL's commitment to welcoming all community members, explains that the library does not ask for immigration status when registering for library cards, states that library records are confidential under Michigan law and cannot be shared with law enforcement without a court order, and clarifies that YDL does not collaborate with ICE agents unless legally obligated. The post includes links to review YDL policies and mission statement, and references the library board's support of Washtenaw County Board of Commissioners Resolution 26-015 opposing county cooperation with immigration enforcement.

We welcome everyone at the library, and we aim to provide spaces where everyone feels safe, respected, and supported. Following recent immigration enforcement activity in Ypsilanti, we want to make sure our community understands our library policies:

Not just that: they started phasing out those contracts around 1963. Companies were very well warned and prepared as they phased out their presence in the country.

One argument I used to make to my students about why it was important to learn history (and historical thinking) is that someone was always going to be trying to tell you things were natural or had always been this way and that you needed to be able to see that as an exercise of power.

That plays into what ICE want us to think: "they have it coming because [insert reason]"

Regardless of your ideology or even criminal background, you shouldn't be taken from your family, detained in this way, & threatened to be expelled to a country you don't know in your in 80s.

Sanford grandfather, born in refugee camp, nabbed by ICE after 70 years in U.S. Paul Bojerski never gained official residency, but he checked in regularly with ICE for years. Then in July, at age 79, he was detained and sent to Alligator Alcatraz.

79-year-old Paul Bojerski was born to Polish parents in a WWII German refugee camp. His family legally emigrated to the U.S. when he was 5.

He’s been taken by ICE in Florida.

You probably saw videos of a nighttime raid in Chicago. Agents rappelling from a helicopter, bursting down doors, questioning brown-skinned immigrants.

We investigated -- and found little evidence to support the government’s claims about Tren de Aragua.

This vision of America--one made up of people not too far removed from autocracy to be taking this moment lightly--really struck a chord with me. Made me feel less alone.

And some of us thought Trump was too much like ChΓ‘vez as early as 2015! Most of the Venezuelans in the US I know would fall under this category--we're not a fun group to report on, but we're her!

My friend, it's true that US media does not cover Latin America well. The collapse of the BolΓvar and of the Venezuelan economy preceded the sanctions and have little relation to the seizure of assets of wealthy government officials. What the US is doing to Venezuelans right now is unconscionable.
