My job has a strong union, so there is a standard promotion process (I became a 'Lecturer II' a year ago) but many other schools don't have adjunct unions or their unions are not as strong as mine, I am lucky

My impression is that it is less common for TT faculty to be unionized than adjuncts

They are two different positions altogether - TT is salaried, (theoretically) permanent, and people are paid for research and teaching

Adjuncts (UMich calls them 'lecturers') are contract workers, are only paid for teaching, and typically only hired one term at a time (I have a longer contract now)

I gotta say, the Dolly Parton/Duncan Hines cake mixes are terrific - definitely worth trying if you need to make a cake and don't want to do it totally from scratch!
