But look at the Democratic state government trifectas in Oregon and Connecticut, they also love imposing austerity on universities - it would break bipartisan consensus on this issue for Dems to defend university budgets

it's part of our history and tradition when we like it, and it is an unconstitutional usurpation when we don't

This is not to say my proposals would necessarily be successful, only to underscore the way contingent faculty roles deprive researchers and their fields by refusing to support such activity

I keep seeing interesting calls-for-papers that I would apply for if my job paid me to do research and/or if research factored into my job performance

I only do unpaid academic writing when it serves my personal and political goals, which center around confronting white supremacy in music

only replying to applaud your long history of homemade hummus preparation - I like to make it myself, too, but I don't do it as often as I should because I like to shell the chickpeas and it's very time consuming

Vexing and sad that one of the most consistent, top-down bipartisan policy views of the 21st century is that colleges and universities are decadent and need to be ground down to a nub for really no reason at all

It's fun to think about how whether I will continue in the profession I've survived for the last decade likely comes down to luck; but, of course, luck is the biggest reason I've had the slightly-more-than-mediocre career I've had in academia
