Doctors know that strong public health relies on collaboration and data. The permanent Australian CDC is a vital step, and while its initial focus is on communicable diseases and environmental health, we’ll keep pushing for non-communicable diseases to be included too.

Physicians have long called for an independent Australian Centre for Disease Control. Thanks to the new legislation introduced by the Australian Government, from 1 Jan 2026, that vision becomes reality. The RACP welcomes this landmark step, built on years of advocacy.
