There's too much salt in Westchester County reservoirs. The culprit? Rock salt from roads A new study by the NYC Department of Environmental Preservation says high salt levels could force the shut down of Westchester County reservoirs.

Cars Ruin Drinking Water:

"...reservoirs in Westchester County east of the Hudson River have abnormally high levels of salt, largely because of road salt runoff from the region’s major thoroughfares β€” I-84, I-684 as well as the Taconic and Saw Mill parkways."

Tip: if you almost hit me, my family or anyone with your car, do not give a cute little wave. This is violent behaviour that continually gets treated as a little β€œwhoopsie” Pull over, stop your car and take some time to think about how you almost killed someone and their family.

If a child runs into the road and a driver doesn't see them, perhaps the driver was going too fast or perhaps there is not enough daylighting. But also, kids dart! They should be able to do kiddie things without getting killed.

A third of Americans don't drive. So why is our transportation so car-centric? Β» Yale Climate Connections Anna Zivarts explains how reimagining transportation could benefit non-drivers and the climate.

It's not just NYC commuters who don't drive -- we must remember there are #nondrivers everywhere and we need to start building communities that don't require car dependency.

Sunderland fears over 'massive TV screen' on roundabout - BBC News Locals say they are shocked after waking up to find the giant digital advertising screen in place.

These giant advertising TVs for drivers need to be banned as they're distracting and affect night vision. Not to mention the unnecessary energy usage in a climate emergency.

Make your city's streets safer and more accessible for walking and cycling by eliminating through motor traffic from neighbourhoods and building protected cycle tracks on main roads, and you'll eliminate the need for roads to be clogged with SUVs during school pick-up time.

Bi-modal for the first ride of the year, with a surprise 3rd largest climb I've ridden. Fun day, but would have been a lot more fun if rural Japan had consistent bike/pedestrian spaces. There were way too many cars despite decent enough drivers.

Once you start noticing not just car crashes as movie tropes but also completely unnecessarily aggressive driving, even in kids films, you can’t unsee it.

In a less car-brained culture this stuff would be called out & at least contribute to movie/TV ratings. But it’s so common & unchallenged.

Cars are deadly weapons and we should start to think about regulating them like it - of course, I'm talking about the ex-US case here!

You don't have to pick one thing and say that's *the* problem. It's all of it. The size of vehicles. The fact that the bollards were being repaired, allowing the driver easy access to the street. A culture soaked in violence. Leaders who make excuses and laws protecting drivers who kill. Etc.

Just like AR-15–style assault weapons, at some point, we have to come to terms with how dangerous massive vehicles like the Ford F-150 (EV or not) are to society and decide whether people should be allowed to have them.

How extreme car dependency is driving Americans to unhappiness A car is often essential in the US but while owning a vehicle is better than not for life satisfaction, a study has found, having to drive too much sends happiness plummeting

β€œThe study doesn’t call for people to completely stop using cars but the solution could be in finding a balance. For many people driving isn’t a choice, so diversifying choices is important.”

One parking spot with four long tail cargo ebikes, two children’s bikes, and one Dutch ebike. An additional child’s bike hangs on the wall. There may be more bikes in the background that I can’t even see, but I’m honestly not sure.

First city leisure ride in months (but even then of course I visited multiple bike shops for "market research").

Plenty of urban cycling recently but it's been purely with explicit destinations in mind - not for fun.

Tonight as I roared my head off to get the attention of an suv driver barreling directly at me, who interpreted my shouts as aggression and blasted their horn in my face, I was reminded of something.

I don’t really hate cars. I actually hate the people that people become when they drive their cars.

If you're curious about how car-brained NYC leaders are, they are working to pass a bill requiring that if a single on-street parking space out of the 3 MILLION in the city is altered in any way, the DOT must notify everyone potentially affected.

More big and bloated government.

Parking lots turn streets into miserable places to walk.

New study finds that parking lots "negatively - and substantially - impact walkability; their objective walkability score is half that of other road segments."
