There is a world where an useful implementation could exist. Design a reward system where you dont "lose" the entire year as the fail state, instead more lenient failstates where you get to try again and every skill check (exam) isnt a threat. But I expect they just did irrelevant "gamification".

This actually a decompilation, not some official port by the og devs, It takes a group of ppl willing to reverse engineer the code as a passion project. We should be thankful the mario 64 decomp stsrted this trend at all!
