Van Robinson 1938-2025

History will remember him as the first black president of the Syracuse Common Council.

But his legacy and contributions are far richer.

My remarks on floor of the House of Representatives honoring his life:

Van Robinson, long-time Syracuse politician and advocate for city’s Black community, dies at 87 Robinson served on the Syracuse Common Council for 18 years and was long-time leader of the Syracuse NAACP.

Van Robinson was a trailblazer who dedicated himself to improving Syracuse and all of New York for his community, and his work will live on.

I’m thinking of his family and loved ones.

May he rest in peace.
