Whiskey? No, I can't - it'll curdle my Baileys. ๐ง Easington/ Spurn

It's bloody annoying, isn't it? I could barely hold my sandwich upright at times, and there he is, creating a literal piece of art.
And it was a joy to watch the incredible Darren Woodhead doing what he does best, live from the field (well, sea...).

Sadly, amphibian numbers in the local area have declined massively in recent years, but this little dude offers a teeny glimmer of hope.
Hey, congrats and all that. I wish you a long and happy marriage.
However, I'm pretty sure it's 10 years' bad luck if you choke a seal pup with one of these....

Advantages of cycling home from the pub at 1am:
Full Moon
Badgers
Tawny Owls
Perseid meteor shower
Sound up (excuse the washing machine in the background).
The local gulls regularly use our flat roof as a cracking platform.
I'd love to know how many crab shells and/or coconuts/monkey skulls are on our roof.
Thoroughly enjoyable evening at the Little Tern colony. Glorious weather, tons of birds, a stunning sunset, and a full moon over the sea.
My soul is calm after a rough week. ๐
๐ฅน๐ฅน๐ฅน Wow. This is pretty bloody stunning.

19.07.2025 14:57 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Dusted off the portable #NotMothTrap and took it down to the Tern hut this evening.
Singles of Tarten Sheath and Whimsical Nigel, both FOY for me. The highlight, though, was a raucous flock of 17 Chocolate-banded Nipples.
I also found a Swan under one of the egg trays. Which was unexpected.
We're at Global Birdfair all weekend!
Come and say hello โ youโll find us in the Nightingale Marquee, Stand 45.
Whether you're a long-time supporter or just curious about Spurn, we'd love to chat.

Really looking forward to attending @globalbirdfair.bsky.social this weekend - my first visit for about 7 years! ๐ฎ
It's going to be a scorcher though. When not on the @spurnbirdobs.bsky.social stand, I will be searching for a lawn full of sprinklers to frolic in. ๐ฅต๐ก๐ฟ
Ahh, those two probably slipped past when I was distracted by an adorable tiny wasp.
I hang my head in shame.
You had 847 in 3 hours? I had 845 in 3 hours!! (But mine was midday). A total of 3286 through Spurn yesterday. โค๏ธ

They were well ready for some snap this evening. ๐ด๐ท
Amazingly, this remarkable individual has returned to the very colony in which it hatched 12 years ago! Tate was fortunate enough to spot it and digiscope these images. Great work, Tate!
Welcome home, weary traveller!

A small, light grey and white bird with a black head, a yellow beak, and orange legs. It is sitting on a sandy beach with water in the background.

A close-up photo of a white bird with orange legs. Only a small part of the tail, the belly, and the legs are visible. On the right leg is a metal ring. On the left leg is a green ring with the letters HKL written on it. The bird is standing on sand.
Wow! A very exciting discovery by one of our wardens, Tate, during his afternoon shift today.
This Little Tern was first ringed as a chick at the Beacon Ponds colony back in 2013.
It was recaptured in Senegal last April and fitted with a green colour ring - HKL.
