It's giving "this is climate change, not global warming"
26.09.2025 16:35 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0After reading this column, I actually think, as with all things, there is the ability to relate some of the ideas to college sports, and the respect and dignity we afford various people in the space.
25.09.2025 16:48 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Should sports be a college major?
Superb question posed, and thanks to the Sports Collective gathering yesterday at Nike NYC HQ, we have a great, growing foundation of really good answers and blueprints for βyes,β βhereβs whyβ and βhereβs how.β
And yes, I had to represent on NBA Draft Day ππ
This is an incredibly sharp piece with some real solutions plugged into it!
16.06.2025 16:04 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I think this might be my biggest pet peeve in college sports. The tendency for administrators and coaches to call college athletes "kids" rather than young men and women.

06.06.2025 01:22 β π 172 π 23 π¬ 3 π 4As always, I am so grateful for @mattbrown.bsky.social giving me the opportunity to write about this problem and talk about how the Original Position applies to college sports!

This is one helluva article, Matt! I hope more universities can tell this story.
20.03.2025 14:39 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0New from me: More than 100 women's basketball players have been quietly forming a players advocacy group. Last month, they went public.
I caught up with Oklahoma's Raegan Beers, the group's SEC President, about what's next as the House settlement looms:

Got this idea based on a question I was asked by a student today: How significant do you think Notre Dame and, to a lesser extent, BYU's market is as the Catholic or Mormon institutions, particularly when it comes to fair-market valuations of NIL deals?
10.03.2025 18:41 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 2 π 1Tbh, I'd read this immediately...
04.03.2025 15:05 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Is there athlete support for a year-round season? I can see both the benefits and drawbacks of a switch, but I'm curious if you have heard anything.

20.02.2025 21:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I would be really interested to hear what the leaders of SAAC would say when presented with the fact that commissioners won't talk with their fellow athletes.
18.02.2025 20:05 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0in 2016, Charlie Baker and the NCAA took pro-trans stances. In 2025, they instantly gave in to transphobia to stay on the good side of Trump and Congress.
In doing so, they've helped give cover to all the other anti-trans garbage these bigots will try to pull.

I wrote this newsletter about college sports but *looks at the news* guess its relevant to lots of other things too huh
money isnt real

As with all things sports, it is a microcosm of society. Namely, Dems failing to meaningfully advocate for issues that are supposed to matter to them and their constituents.
17.01.2025 22:14 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Donor fatigue is real, but the worry that NIL would lead to declining donations to FBS athletic departments has largely not come to pass.
My SBJ analysis of data from 2019-23 found 74.5% of public FBS schools had their best fundraising years under NIL.

DCC might be the series I most loved reading last year. Never thought that a LitRPG with such a wacky premise would grow to have so much heart that rivals some of the best modern sci-fi/fantasy I have read!
14.01.2025 18:11 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Gonna echo something here that Iβve said for years now: I hope someday thereβs real movement by black athletes, coaches and parents to boycott these schools. If they donβt want black people on campus, donβt go. Imagine trying to find work at these places when they no longer covet the athleticism.

10.01.2025 20:22 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I really think schools should offer legitimate majors for athletes in βfootballβ or βbasketballβ and so on. Itβs easy to imagine academic courses in sports (history, strategy/theory, analytics, etc) and colleges certainly offer less practical majors (which are also good!)
09.01.2025 15:08 β π 177 π 21 π¬ 17 π 5I wrote the latest cover story for The Atlantic. It's about the far-ranging implications of one simple statistic: Americans have never spent so much time alone, and surging solitude is warping our society.
I'm really proud of it, and I hope you read it.

Everything about this is chilling!
07.01.2025 01:01 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Good read by @daniellibit.bsky.social. This was always the correct answer when college athletic departments stressed they canβt pay players. Donβt pay coaches so much. Coach and player compensations are directly linked. www.sportico.com/leagues/foot...
