I loved those few years where CD-ROMs gave us a lot of storage but GPUs were relatively primitive so a number of games essentially filmed B-movies for their cutscenes. Wing Commander is a prime example. Love it.

Even the bottom of the list, Super Mario Run, is a decent game.

Modern lighting is an unsung hero of technology.

It’s super cheap, it lasts forever, it’s highly configurable (colors), and safe (little heat).

It’s incredible considering we were on candles not that long ago in the grand scheme of things.

I was just starting to feel comfortable with a Game Key Card for Star Wars Outlaws when I booted it up and learned that the game _requires_ an Ubisoft online account. 😔

Can you imagine what stealth games were like before the invention of air ducts? 😉

It really captured the dull warmth of a post-apocalypse fire.

Playing Metroid Prime 2 reminds me how influential The Matrix movies were on video games in the 2000s.

Everything is dark, techno, and complex.

Eight years on and Breath of the Wild is still best-in-class.

(I’ve neglected taxes and facilities costs which might bring the staff down a bit but it’s a fascinating question to think about.)

And the first two years may not have been at Nintendo’s expense. They could have had a contract that only paid out upon successful completion.
