They're all wild that's the beauty of them and I don't really relate to them. There are a couple of characteristics that are familiar that I've accentuated but the joy of writing for me is being someone completely different. Do you write?

I love a good walk. There's a writing retreat in Garsdale (Yorkshire) that has amazing food and walks plus lovely cosy rooms to write in. Perfect.

It is so hard, especially on the days when you're in the zone. But it pays me back with inspiration.

Thursday and Friday are my exercise in the morning days. Meaning I give up 90 minutes of writing time. I thought I'd resent it but it helps. It means I don't burn out before the weekend, and exercise brings the best ideas.

If you're stuck, move your body and switch your brain off.

On my walk home yesterday, I thought up ways to make the opening of WIP4 better. This is clearly because I'm struggling with the ending, so my brain has wandered off to easy sections.

Scrivener was hiding words in my document that had been written on a different computer. So my manuscript just jumped from 43k to 50k without me touching the thing.

My characters keep doing things I didn't plan for, which I always think is a good sign because it means they're fully formed... however, I have a plan, get back on the path to the ending Gabe or I'll give you a bad back.

Today my characters go to hell, literally. I'm at 43k words and have the sense that everything before this chapter is rubbish, but it got me to where I am and I can edit. It's supposed to be crap, it is the shit draft.

I'm so with you on this. Why doesn't staring at my inbox make emails appear? And why is it frowned upon to do the staring while at my actual job? Rude.

There's a storm, and the rescue cat feels she needs to tell me about it, which is sweet. But I'm struggling to focus as it is and her constant yelling that the world is ending isn't helping.
