This painting is titled "Helmsley Castle in North Yorkshire" by the British artist Samuel Bough (1822–1878) It captures a rural scene with a flock of sheep grazing in the foreground near the imposing ruins of the castle.

Helmsley Castle by Samuel Bough (1822–1878). He was born in Carlisle to a poor family, but one who encouraged his interest in art. He is best known as a painter of maritime scenes. The castle offers a comprehensive chronicle of construction spanning from the 12th to the 16th centuries.

My home county. Such diverse landscapes too. We love the seabirds around Holy Island's quieter beaches.

This image shows the inside of a traditional rhubarb forcing shed, a practice primarily found in the "Rhubarb Triangle" of West Yorkshire, England. Rhubarb plants are moved into dark, warm sheds after a couple of years in the field to encourage rapid growth. The absence of light results in tender, sweeter, pink stems and yellow leaves. Candles are traditionally used for harvesting as the low light prevents photosynthesis. The process is so fast that some say you can hear the rhubarb "sing" or "pop" as it grows. "Yorkshire Forced Rhubarb" has Protected Designation of Origin (PDO) status.

It’s that time of year again, and in Wakefield that means celebrating the area’s most distinctive tradition: the forced rhubarb grown in the historic Rhubarb Triangle. Harvested by candlelight in darkened sheds, this delicate pink crop was so prized that special night trains ran from Christmas

It's such an evocative photo. I well recall Silver Cross prams!

Do you know where this photo is taken Brian? It's reminiscent of Cullercoats - possibly Simpson Streer with fishermen's cottages. I think it's probably that it evokes a memory though it may well be somewhere else.
