This is exactly it. Remote work was never going to be a thing as CEOs and CFOs looked at all the empty chairs in the offices and thought to themselves, I'm paying for all this space for nothing. Instead of downsizing the office space its much easier to just force everyone to come back to the office.

I wonder if the key philosophical difference between "liberals" and "conservatives" these days is whether one views the economy and law (secular as well as religious) as things made to serve humans or holding to the view that humans were made to serve the economy and the law.
