Nature, climate, and people have coexisted for millennia, and the current crises cannot be addressed in isolation. To tackle today’s climate challenges, global climate action must move beyond carbon targets to also deliver for biodiversity and people.

People-centred approaches risk creating trade-offs and unintended consequences for both biodiversity and climate. For example, certain agricultural and fisheries practices can harm ecosystems and accelerate climate change, contributing to deforestation, pesticide runoff and unsustainable farming.

Actions for nature with little or no benefits to climate or social goals, such as protection or restoration projects in remote areas or unclaimed lands often have limited effectiveness in addressing carbon emission targets.
