Day 3: she liked the donut bed and the cave we made for her out of a table and small blanket. The photo shows her in the bed and looking out. She is half in darkness and her gold eyes are wide and she is taking sounds and movement. Her big brother preferred to hang out in the large cat carrier we put down for him. The two often slept together inside it at night for emotional comfort.

This was her stance after a few days. She had come out of hiding, decided we won’t hurt her, and was eating her food. Her look is still wary here, her body is stiff, and she is ready to run and hide at any moment. I took this photo sitting on a shower bench, and looking down at her on the floor. I love white feet and white chin. She’s a lovely girl. I was later able to give her lap cuddles by wrapping her in a comfy blanket and sitting with her on that bench. She likes head scritches and neck rubs. The engineer can more easily sit on the floor, and this went a long way towards helping these two lap cats gain trust. He would gently pull her into his lap and her purrs went from “Please don’t hurt me” to “This is nice” Both cats were clearly used to touch and we believe pets and gentle cuddles are one way to their hearts.

Gentle gray tabby Chloe came to us scared, sad, and shut down after her beloved caregiver died.

She’s relaxed the last two weeks, likes pets, has gained weight, and is willing to trust again.

They thrive in alpine meadows above 4,000 feet, where they spend spring and summer munching on wildflowers and grasses to fatten up in preparation for a hibernation that can last up to eight months. But there are only between 2,000 and 4,000 left.

A species that is only found in the alpine meadows of Washington’s Olympic Mountain Range is now under review for the highest level of federal protection.

This is Fedya, the commander you may remember from “2000 Meters to Andriivka” (watch it if you haven’t!). Like many Ukrainian defenders protecting freedom & democracy, he also cares for pets on the front line—this is his dog “pkm”. The Hachiko team delivered food for his brigade!

Thank you. She and her cat roomie were deeply loved. Her human Mom was young and active - in her mid 40s! - so this came as a horrible surprise to all concerned, including her 20 year old son. His apt won’t take pets + most groups and shelters here are full so we’re glad we can help.

A lovely six year old brown and white female tabby with light green eyes and a white chin looks into the camera. We finally got her to eat. She is hiding in her carrier in our foster room (of course) and clinging to her ten year old cat friend and roommate, Big Joey, for comfort. We’re working with them, both before we decide if they need a new home separately or together. If will be much harder to place Joey - a gorgeous, long haired Main Coon - as he is a senior cat. I’m not sure if they are pair bonded or just amiable roommates. We’ll see. Either way, we have their backs.

Meet emergency foster, Chloe. Her caregiver died suddenly of a stroke. No one could/would take her cats before the apt lease was up. We heard about this and took in both on 1/30.

They’re traumatized, scared, and in mourning. We’ll work to earn their trust, and help them through it. #Caturday #cats
