here’s a snippet of one! This one took longer than I expected, but it was so relaxing to make.

My grandpa passed last evening. He was surrounded by family, everyone had a hand on him and telling how much we loved him as he faded away.

He got the ending he deserved. I wouldn’t be who I am today without him. He made the world a kinder place.

I love you Papa. Thank you for everything.

Mimic 6, acrylic on wood panel (2023)

Instead of being species specific, I wanted to emulate more of the general visual elements of wood to make a passable illusion.

The base was prepped in studio and then colored in during a live painting session at Capitol Modern

Square sculptural painting of fake redwood bark with green moss. Mirrors are arranged a a square in the center with an additional border evenly spaced between the center and edge of the painting.

Mimic 4 (2022) Based on the #CaliforniaRedwood I wanted to make something with a lot of texture and with some utility. The mirrors are reminiscent of the forest canopy, where bright sun passes through the crowns of trees.

#’Ohi’a’Ai produces crisp apples and has solid wood for building. The bark for dye. A plant of many uses.

#Staghornfern for a long lived friend.

#PuaMale #stephanotis has a sweet scent and is often used for weddings for their many flowers.

#Naupaka has a #mo’olelo (history/legend) about love over great distances. Design is of two Naupaka flowers, the flower is famous for looking as if it were cut in half.

This page is on hiatus as I care for a family member in hospice. For now, I’m focusing on caregiving and making art for myself. Heres a few things to share for now. Hope you enjoy 🐞

Golf courses could be repurposed into community parks. It’d be a place for outdoor sports, nature walks, or even a botanical garden. A lot of infrastructure is already there, and it could be altered to better suit the local ecology.
