I actually think it's genuine. Half of him would probably prefer his juice box to be dead to keep his secret, but half was scared what would happen if they figured out it's him who killed their leader.

I also think he was scared whoever's close to him ends up dead even without Cazador.

I understand it, and I agree they're just fuckers all around, full scale.

But speaking of caring for common good first, I do think there's some validity, if not responsibility, to care for your close one first, especially when children are involved. I've been abandoned before for "higher purposes".

And I don't blame him one bit for falling for someone who would. And be ready to offer the world once he found it, only to have this person stay by his side. For it to last as long as it can, even if he later admits he was just counting days, convinced it's too perfect to happen and stay anyway.

We all want to feel safe when talking to a loved one without getting hurt, even accidentally. I think that's very important and plays a major role in overall feeling of safety and support. Hearing jabs and/or not being understood without words is just tiresome and lonely.

After time I noticed that's his way of dipping the toes into possibility of having tag/durge as a friend. See if his sense of humour fits with theirs, if they like him enough to engage in little discussions. If they're kind enough to banter and not be rude. Eg. talking about his mole
