I agree but if we want an equitable system we're going to have to start on a foundation that's realistic and palatable to critics - that's going to be a low-income cutoff value. The goal would obviously be to raise that income cut off to adequately provide for all needs re; Maslow's hierarchy.

Progressive tax rates start at a low income threshold and $100k aint going to be it no matter what politician or economist you talk to. In Canada, the lowest tax bracket is like $15,000 and you start paying federal and provincial taxes on all amounts over that.
