I make a sourdough chocolate cake that is wonderful. Almost as good as my sourdough carrot cake.

Cover art for All the Horses of Iceland by Sarah Tolmie. There is a large hill in the background and two dark horses running behind a white one across a field. It is done in watercolor and evokes mysticism.

He joins a group of traders on their way to Mongolia, where he brings back a small herd of horses and the knowledge of how to make wool felt material. Lots of things happen, one of the horses is VERY SPECIAL, Eyvind lives happily ever after. By all means judge this book by its cover.

I also read (and finished!) All the Horses of Iceland by Sarah Tolmie. It's a 100 page standalone novella so don't be too impressed with me finishing a whole book over a long weekend. It intentionally has the feel of a Norse saga and tells the story of Eyvind, an Icelandic trader in the early 700s.

I finished Greenteeth. Highly recommend it to anyone who likes the fae and British folklore. I guessed some of the big reveal but not all of it. Someone more familiar with those legends might have gotten there sooner than I did. It was nice to get a surprise at the end.

These grow in the landscaping on campus, but I never saw them in bloom, so I'm not sure what they are. I harvested several seed heads for the prairie garden. We'll see what they do next year.

Oh, no, the bushes are thorny as heck. This cutting was from a very young branch that hadn't formed any yet.

I haven't read Good Bones yet, but I love most of her books so much. There's usually something icky going on but the ones I like most are more cozy than gross. A Wizard's Guide to Defensive Baking is an absolute joy as is the Saint of Steel series of books.
