August's scene request: what would have become of the pups if they hadn't escaped? Or if the humans had separated them not long after they were born, possibly being raised by Edith.

Jed likely would have still bought Edith and bred her to Ratko, but since Ratko wouldn't need weeks to bond with her first, they wouldn't have grown as close. Ratko could be bred to another female, or many. Edith would raise their pups alone (with human involvement obviously) and be bred again once she was able to, potentially to a different dog. There are a lot of things to explore with this AU in particular. Like how without their close bond Jed could have trained any dog to guard livestock with Ratko, not just Edith, or how Kelton may or may not play a role in this timeline, etc. But I would be here for hours if I went into all those details, so I'll let you have your own headcanon about it lmao.
