I think the anime creators just keep him having darker skin to be consistent cause he shows up in sun and
Moon and he’s darker skin again

Also in origins which is more accurate to the games he’s has some dark skin but it’s a bit lighter

While I agree with people about the whitewashing this is one of those cases where him being darker skin was an anime only thing and he was white at the start

That said they make him darker skin again in every non anime appearance
