We've known for a while that Bill Maher's audience consists of his writers/producers but this week I learned that they hire paid audience members. This explains why he gets so mad when they don't laugh at his shitty jokes. They're being paid to laugh.

I had the good fortune to know Leslie Lee III a little bit, and to have gone on his show. He was warm, generous, insightful, and passionate. Just an all-around mensch. I'm shocked and saddened to learn of his passing.
