Alberta education minister concerned about private school funding petition Alberta’s education minister says cutting government funding to private schools would only escalate the pressure faced by the province’s strained public school system.

Hat tip to @mitchellab.bsky.social

Dani: "Maybe every independent school needs to be fully funded and we need to phase out every government-run, union-controlled public school more interested in indoctrinating students than teaching them critical-thinking skills."

I can’t take the side of a bad driver, sorry. I feel nothing but contempt for bad drivers. Especially when they’re hanging out in the passing lane and oblivious to a vehicle approaching them from behind. Nope.

You want to make it about Canada US relations. I can’t be mad at him because I think bad drivers from other provinces should stay home, too.

Sure we do — they recorded it. The guy was honking at them and riding their ass. If they were passing someone they couldn’t have got the picture of him passing them on the right. I don’t care if they were doing 80mph — they were in the passing lane and someone was trying to pass them.

That’s why slower vehicles should be in the right lane; so speeders can pass them. I can’t give up my principles of righteously hating stupid drivers just because they got yelled at by a pissed off USian. I get his reaction more than the idiocy of the Canadian dawdling along in the passing lane.

When you elect conservatives, you elect an assault on public education and a transfer of public money to the wealthy, in this instance private schools.

How Mark Carney is complicating Canada’s climate progress | The Narwhal From cancelling the carbon tax to pausing the EV mandate, Mark Carney’s government is making sweeping changes to Canada’s environmental rules

I think, given the state of the policies when Carney came along, it's not hard to understand why he killed the carbon tax and paused the EV mandate.

I think there are also experts who would say you don't need the O&G emissions cap...

"The total private school grant was increased by 10.3 per cent in the 2025 budget. The hike was just 4.5 per cent for public schools, well short of inflation plus population growth. Per-student spending on private schools is expected to grow to $544 million by 2027-28."

Today, teachers in Edmonton (and across Alberta) rallied for public education.

Tomorrow, we go on strike. The UCP said they have no idea what teachers want. If that's still true, I'd recommend that they read our initial proposal (again).

One way out of this might come wrapped in Reaganite branding. Somebody runs on "America Is Open for Business." They'll promise to end tariffs by fiat, reopen global trade, launch a ludicrously expensive marketing campaign to convince tourists they won't be kidnapped. 20% chance it's a Republican.
