Though the drones flew into the path Mr Zelenskiy’s aircraft had earlier taken in the off-coast area, they did so only after a considerable time had elapsed. The Yeats was not in Dublin Bay from three reports I read, the drones flew out within 500m of it and covered 17km between sightings, so that kind of obfuscates the launch location, no?

Don't over-infer. People are also protective of their (perceived) property and don't want anything encroaching that affects their enjoyment of it (including value on disposal).

Oh there's the Outer Space Treaty, someone would need to check on that too, whether it prohibits nuking Dublin Bay from space, don't have time here.

In fact Ireland could start a space program, leave the NPT, build a nuke, and nuke the drones from space, and it wouldn't contravene the Triple Lock as far as I know.

The Irish state's ability to detect or counter drones being used to disrupt the operations of the state, are not related to the Triple Lock on deployment of troops on military missions outside the state. Apparently this is something Irish political journalists think.

His assumption their being "locally launched" means "there's probably operatives that are working within Ireland" is unfounded. Every chance they're ship launched.

But not sure why it is "unhinged "to assume land-launched as opposed to ship-launched, the challenge remains the same.

Whether there was a concern about where ordnance would go, I would wager there was probably some sensitivity about trying to take drones out, failing, and being seen to fail, by whomever was operating them. They're very prone, those vessels.

I think the Beckett class could take a palletised 40mm cannon and then you have proximity fuzed shells so less concern about down range ordnance. Don't think they're an option on that 20mm.

Detection and interception is a Europe-wide issue. It's technically challenging for advanced countries. And that a disabling amount of them can launch from a semi truck trailer or any random merchant vessel makes blanket detection impossible.
