NIH Funding Cuts Intensify Physician Faculty Recruitment and Retention Challenges Jason D. Tackett, Managing Principal, SullivanCotter | Amid NIH funding cuts, academic medical centers must act now to avoid disruptions in compensation and workloads to retain and attract top talent.

Academic medical centers are on the cutting edge of patient care. Why? Because they have the most talented physician-scientists…the doctors who skillfully combine clinical care and research. But NIH funding cuts could make it harder to attract top talent.

We set out to quantify U.S. academic contributions to medicines. The results stunned even us From 2020 to 2024, universities contributed patents underpinning 50% of FDA-approved drugs. 87% of those academic breakthroughs came from American institutions.

β€œuniversities contributed patents underpinning 50% of FDA-approved drugs…

NIH-funded basic science has contributed to the development of more than 90% of new medicines, vaccines, and devices…

75% of scientists in America were considering leaving the country.”

U.S. early-career researchers struggling amid chaos Uncertain funding, government firings, and distressed universities hit vulnerable groups especially hard

A whole generation of early career scientists and physician-scientists, including colleagues and myself, are particularly vulnerable to these funding freezes and cuts, with jobs and careers depending on federal grants.

Inoculation Science - Games - Harmony Square A short, free-to-play online game in which players learn how political misinformation is produced and spread.

This game to help understand misinformation spreading was fun and educational. I recommend anyone spend ten minutes to play!

It was shared on Bluesky last week but I wanted to boost.
