My statement on the Governor signing H307 into law.

I facilitated (not hosted) a meaningful conversation for the Duke community at the request of Chabad, a Jewish religious organization on campus. I was unaware of the nature of Seinfeld’s remarks beforehand. I do not agree with what he said.

“When you think you’re alone, you’re not alone.” That’s what @kamalaharris.com said to Nicole Collier when she called. What she’s doing is so much bigger than her, than Texas. She’s taking back her autonomy, resisting authoritarian tactics, setting an example. Thank you!!

Congresswoman @crockett.house.gov was just districted out of her seat by a state legislature that is 61% white and 73% male. Representative Nicole Collier is being held hostage by the same legislature. Call this what it is: an attack on Black women and Black communities, full stop.

Do I know if we’re going back to work this month? No I don’t. NC has just one General Assembly, and we’re it. Vacation needs to be over, folks. Democrats are ready to get to work.

Last week reminded us that the state level is where trust in the political process is built — & where it is lost. We need EVERY Democratic legislator to bring the energy, values alignment, & hard work that it will take to fight for an affordable America. #NorthCarolina

We voted against this budget because it’s not a good budget. It doesn’t fund Medicaid — even as coverage for 3.1 million North Carolinians is threatened. It doesn’t fund raises for our teachers. And it neglects our true constitutional duty: passing a REAL budget for this biennium.

Republicans say a bill to ban books and punish LGBTQIA people for existing is to “protect women” but when given an opportunity to actually protect women…

On the same day that a gunman senselessly murdered four people in New York with an assault weapon, our State Senate voted to give MORE people access to guns, making it more likely for incidents like this to happen here in North Carolina. We all deserve better.

Truly shameful. We know that letting anyone carry a gun means more deaths — HUNDREDS more annually in our state. We must break the supermajority in the Senate so that we can uphold the Governor’s vetoes on gun sense, immigration, corporate greed and LGBTQ rights.

This fired up mom is ready for the 2026 Senate race with pom poms, cartwheels, snacks, shoes with little roller skates in them, the megaphone from the garage, my special clipboard, crystals, electrolytes, you name it.

We’re going back into session next week, and I look forward to upholding these and the Governor’s previous vetos!

Mourning the loss of one of our state’s most storied civil rights leaders, James Ferguson — a trailblazer and one of the primary forgers of the Black-Jewish alliance that accomplished so much during the Movement and beyond. May his memory be for a blessing.

With no adjustment of pay for cost of living, NC’s state employees would effectively be getting a pay CUT. If the Republicans in the General Assembly are going to back tariffs that fuel inflation, the least they can do is give folks the ability to be able to buy the basics.

Now, they want to finalize that control by taking away every last bit of executive authority away from the Governor and the Governor’s agencies by making it impossible for them to make new rules. That’s what House Bill 402 would do.

Republicans say they want less regulation, but DON’T BE FOOLED. What they really want is total control over every branch of government. First, they took over the legislature. Then, they made that control permanent by taking over the judiciary.🧵

This is what I meant by bringing new energy to the Senate – BOLD ideas and the chutzpah to make them happen. That’s really what I’m celebrating today: a year of growing bolder and (hopefully) wiser.

When I hear news like the Federal DOJ is being called in by NC Republicans to disenfranchise voters, I feel mad. Then I tap into my toddler mom frequency and recognize this for what it is: a tantrum. Boundaries and sturdiness end tantrums. And guess what, NC? We won’t budge for bullies.
