Exactly. We are in desperate need of leadership who can reframe how we talk about crime. Exploding # of ways to scam people via cell phones and apps. Data breaches and DOGE dumping our SSNs on an unsecured cloud. Crypto schemes and online gambling flourishing. All while gutting the CFPB and FTC.

I really wish there were widely offered law school courses in government operations law: budgets, appropriations, and financial controls; appointment, hiring, and the civil service; procurement and contracting; ethics and anti-corruption laws; lobbying; and suing the government.

Save your there-are-too-many-lawyers jokes this time around. The rule of law can’t exist without the good ones, and by the looks of things, we have nowhere near enough.

Instead of "This is inappropriate!" Democrats - especially those who might run for president - should say right now "Anyone who participates in this should know: You are committing a crime, and in the next administration you will be prosecuted."

That will change the frame of the story.

Other states need to begin intentional punishment of the hostile Texas government, including cancelling state government contracts with Texas companies and interfering with their commerce such as by imposing onerous Texas-company-specific certifications and licensing.

An absolutely incredible speech. The kind of speech that should be studied in history one day - whether it will be depends on whether the tech industry can be stopped.

It didn’t work because they weren’t actually here to do anything about crime. They were here to subjugate us.

For as much as some members of Congress say the D.C. government is dysfunctional and should be disbanded, it's worth noting that the D.C. government will open and operate normally tomorrow because elected officials can do stuff like, you know, pass annual budgets.

If any other president in all of history said the military should use American cities as a training ground he would be removed from office that same day. The hardest thing to tolerate in all this is how relatively silent elected democrats are. It’s ridiculous.

So we’ve got increasingly cruel policies targeting the unhoused, a eugenicist with quack beliefs on mental health running HHS, a burgeoning federal goon squad, and now…private equity backed psychiatric hospitals.

@hakeem-jeffries.bsky.social What are you doing to mobilize your members to protect DC autonomy? @schumer.senate.gov how are you going to stop this and the other bills that passed the house that take away DC’s rights in the Senate?

House passes bill that would allow more DC car chases - Roll Call For the second day in a row, the House passed legislation that would counteract local D.C. crime and policing laws, angering local advocates.

DC residents decided that public safety required restricting high speed police chases. 29 Democrats joined the Trump regime to say we don’t get to decide that for ourselves. Given the current federal efforts to commandeer law enforcement here, this is scary.

It is very easy to cancel your subscription on the Post’s website. Just click the person icon at the top right, and β€œmanage or cancel” is right there. The FTC’s click-to-cancel rule was blocked by the courts this summer, so do it now before it gets redesigned to make it impossible.

Thank you @hankjohnson.house.gov and @blumenthal.senate.gov for re-introducing the #FAIRAct and continuing to stand with consumers, workers, and small businesses. Ending forced arbitration and restoring everyone’s freedom to choose where to bring claims is a more important mission than ever.

The story of conservatism for the past 70 years or so is conservative establishment figures thinking they could temper the extremists in their movement by adopt some of their rhetoric and policies. But instead of that, they just wind up giving the radicals the car keys.

They want to turn DC into a far right police state. If you have congressional representation, please call your reps and tell them to fight hard against this.
