At about the half way point, I realised I should have tried this out first before signing up for the competition… but by the end of my first full run through of #hyrox I actually felt quite excited about it! This is going to be tough though!

2mi cycle to Kings Heath, 2mi run home, bus with kids to summer club, 1mi cycle to Bournville office, 9mi train to Wylde Green, short cycle to/ fr client, train to Brum city centre, tram to/from West Brom then 5mi cycle back to Bournville office. 1mi cycle home 🚲🚍🚆🚃🏃🏽‍♀️

I’m talking school systems not individuals or academic expectations. I agree that both teaching and academic levels are much higher but the latter is the problem esp given the pandemic-so much pressure on grades that teachers adhere to systems that are inherently poor for long term well being.

Absolutely agree that most teachers are doing their best, but the other bit? No way… as a mum of 3, things are not vastly better- they just have more people employed to pick up the pieces of a flawed and old fashioned system that is inherently breaking our children.

Shut down the youth clubs.
Sell off the playing fields.
Put up "no ball games" signs.
Make public places hostile to teenagers.
Then:
"Young people, eh? Always indoors looking at their phones."

I’ve always leant into action-focussed change rather than waiting for politicians, but hate to say that here in Brum, never before have we needed political change more than now.
Worried from what dark corners that cd emerge, how about a ‘Better B’ham- streets, homes, health and childhoods’ party?
