Exactly. My gripe with people’s focus on “evidence-based practices” is there’s no such thing as context-free evidence. And the range of factors that can make implementing a strategy to fidelity ranges to accounting for disability to class size to “did everyone eat this morning?”

That matters.

Finding Peter Putnam The forgotten janitor who discovered the logic of the mind

He modeled the logic of induction; traced the contours of the embodied mind; hung out with Einstein, Wheeler, and Bohr; gave away millions for art and conservation; fought for civil and gay rights; and lived as a janitor. My new story in @nautil.us

A grid from 1 to 36.

Each player starts with 10 counters.

Players take turns to roll a dice and place a counter
on a multiple of that number if possible.
The first player to use up all their counters wins!

In #MathsToday we played this. A sneaky way to squeeze in some revision on multiples and lots of fun.

💯 agree with Mayor Whanau @misswhanau.bsky.social

Local councils are key to providing well-being resources and assets for their communities. Not least because this govt couldn’t care less about people.

I want my tax dollars going to a range of well-being projects. Take my money!

Factorising 3x + 12.

Factorising 3x + 12.

Weaker students can struggle with that, though, but a little tree helped. Cue maths teachers saying "I've always done it that way!" That's why you need subject specialists! 2/2

Another great day at #NZAMT19 with more Craig Barton - being asked to describe our school's use of Diagnostic Questions in another session with Craig in the audience was a wee bit nerve wracking - and more, incl. Skittles representing the following loci: point equidistant from two given points, point at a fixed distance from one given point, point equidistant from two give lines, point a fixed distance from a given line segment.

Skittles representing the following loci: point equidistant from two given points, point at a fixed distance from one given point, point equidistant from two give lines, point a fixed distance from a given line segment.

Last week our year 13s started their conic sections standard by looking at loci through the medium of Skittles. Sadly, some Skittles did not make it out of the lesson. Thanks to Chris Collins for originally introducing me to this #NZ #maths #conics #Skittles

30 is the sum of 3 consecutive integers (9+10+11), 4 consecutive integers (6+7+8+9) and 5 consecutive integers (4+5+6+7+8)

Prove that a number can't be the sum of 4 consecutive integers and 8 consecutive integers.

This is an incredible example of why math literacy is so important.

tldr Trump's tariff calculations use fancy Greek letters and subscripts to obfuscate a very simple calculation. ♾️
