In Nederland herdenken we op 4 mei de slachtoffers van de Tweede Wereldoorlog in Europa en in Zuidoost-Azië. Sinds 1961 herdenken we ook de slachtoffers van oorlogssituaties en vredesoperaties waarbij Nederland betrokken was na de Tweede Wereldoorlog.
