They rely on their workforce being too frazzled and on-edge to do things like unionize, demand better wages, or keep job hunting. They want you to feel as replaceable and desperate as possible.

This is precisely the reason for many jobs. If they gave everyone a consistent schedule, they could actually plan and do things like get sufficient work, pursue secondary education, schedule interviews for better jobs, and most importantly, wouldn't feel trapped in an insecure job.

Still, even if you're lucky and get two that will cooperate, working two part time jobs almost always means putting in at least 6 days a week if you somehow luck out and get 3 8 hours each instead of them both trying to serve you 5 4-6 hour shifts simultaneously and rarely on a consistent schedule.

I WISH they gave me that many. I'm lucky I found one that will sometimes give me 37.5 but usually only 24-32, because they offer part time health insurance (which is both garbage and unaffordable but exists) unlike my last few which never let you average more than 24, lest ye incur lack of benefits.
