RAJU: You swore in 2 GOP members during pro forma session. Why not swear in Grijalva? Does it have to do w/her signature on Epstein petition?

JOHNSON: It has nothing to do with that. We'll swear her in when everybody is back

R: Why not now?

J: Uh - we'll schedule it, I guess, as soon as she wants

ICE is doing a hell of a lot of harm in the Chicago area *right now.* I donโ€™t mean to trivialize the national guard stuff, it absolutely is an irresponsible escalation, but the guard-centric convo around this really does understate whatโ€™s going on without any guardsmen.

Banned Books - Gator Days

Transcript

Panel 1

Olivia and Gustopher are at the library. The Library is having a special event for books that have been banned in the past. Dora the librarian is stacking books with titles like "BOOK", "Boogers", "Tales", "Can you", "read this" and "Word". Olivia has a great interest in forbidden knowledge and has been browsing what's available. She's found a book called "Salt Box" and has an important question for the librarian.

Olivia: Miss Librarian! Why was this book banned?

Dora: Vulgar Language.

Panel 2

Dora makes a shocked expression and holds her hands to her face. This is the only way she can express how depraved the book is.

Dora: The word "butt" is used.... FIFTEEN TIMES!

Panel 3

Dora looks down to the children to gather their reaction. Internally, Gustopher is wondering if Dora meant "but" with one "t" or "butt" with two. Olivia immediately assumes it's the latter.

Behind them is a poster promoting banned books week. There is a cartoon book that's smiling and saying "I'm forbidden!" He's booky the banned book. He was specifically banned for being made using the darkest of magic. He's also kind of rude.

Panel 4

Olivia is excited about the book. This leads Gustopher to assume that "butt" was indeed spelled with an extra "t".

Olivia: Now I have to read it.

Dora: Oh noooo... I'll help you check it out.

THE CHICKENS ARE FINALLY COMING HOME TO ROOST

Ryan Walters is out & the investigation floodgates just opened. The Oklahoma AG launched a full audit of Waltersโ€™ entire tenure as Superintendent, and itโ€™s about damn time.

Also the education dept websiteโ€™s being scrubbed of his culture-war nonsense.

These 8 Trump-appointed judges have accused him of 'blatantly violating the law': analysis President Donald Trump's administration has argued that its policies are being stymied in the courts by Democratic-appointed judges, but one new analysis shows that multiple Republican judges โ€“ including some appointed by Trump himself โ€” have been a consistent thorn in his side. CNN's Aaron Blake documented Monday how, just eight months into Trump's second term, eight of his own judges have had their names attached to rulings striking down some of his most controversial policies. According to Blake, U.S. District Judges Karen Immergut, Thomas Cullen, Timothy J. Kelly, Fernando Rodriguez Jr., Stephanie Gallagher, Trevor N. McFadden, Mary S. McElroy and U.S. Court of International Trade Judge Timothy Reif have all ruled against him just in the past year alone. "To date, GOP-appointed judges have ruled against the administration in more than a dozen high-profile cases," Blake wrote. "Theyโ€™ve also often used strong language that suggested Trump and his administration were blatantly violating the law." One of the more notable cases in which Republican judges directly ruled against Trump pertained to his tariffs. Judge Reif, who Trump appointed to his role in 2019, ruled in conjunction with Ronald Reagan-appointed Judge Jane Restani that Trump illegally claimed emergency powers under the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) to unilaterally impose tariffs in April. "[The IEEPa] does not authorize any of the worldwide, retaliatory, or trafficking tariff orders," the ruling read. "The worldwide and retaliatory tariff orders exceed any authority granted to the President by IEEPA to regulate importation by means of tariffs." Trump has also had some of his more stringent immigration policies held up by his own judges. Judge Rodriguez Jr., who Trump nominated in 2018, ruled in May that Trump lacked the authority to deport immigrants to El Salvador's notorious CECOT mega-prison under the Alien Enemies Act of 1798. Judge Gallagher came to a similar conclusion in her own ruling in April. And other Republican appointees have joined in: U.S. Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals Judge Leslie H. Southwick (appointed by George W. Bush) struck down the Trump administration's attempt to appeal the Alien Enemies Act ruling as part of a 2-1 panel decision. "A countryโ€™s encouraging its residents and citizens to enter this country illegally is not the modern-day equivalent of sending an armed, organized force to occupy, to disrupt or to otherwise harm the United States," Southwick wrote on behalf of the panel.
