It sounds to me like her position is more aggressive than just nationalising key infrastructure (which would be a significant break from current practice but hardly world historical radicalism). But she should have said β€œsocialise the economy” rather than nationalise.

conservatives relentlessly cram positions with ideologues - to the point of hard right poster, Gray Connolly, on AAT.

But then small l liberal progressives wring hands about jobs for the boys and prevent anything similar on the left side. This asymmetry accumulates and entrenches the right.

I agree this is a good feature, but imo the worst feature of means testing is that it under taxes the wealthy. A means test caps out at 100% of the benefit value lost - someone $1 over loses as much as someone $1M over.

Tax them more.

The Olivia Nuzzi Comeback Is Everything Wrong With Modern Media Olivia Nuzzi’s comeback isn’t a personal scandal storyβ€”it’s proof that today’s media rewards access, personality, and controversy more than ethics.

β€˜And maybe she’s right. Maybe in a media landscape where institutional authority has collapsed, where nobody trusts anything anyway, where personal brand is the only thing that survives platform collapse and industry implosion, Nuzzi is simply ahead of the curve.’

Suppose you wanted to persuade politicians that universities were just a bunch of money-hungry lobbyists, concerned more about profits than educating our young people. What would you do? The Group of 8 (lobby for "sandstone" unis) decided to join "an alliance of industry groups". #universities

Acoss research found the cost of fully indexing tax thresholds to inflation is $38B by 2031, with half going to the highest 20% by income.
So that's not the solution.
Closing tax shelters is.

Meant to bolster moderate Dems relative to left Dems by providing a narrative that decentres redistribution. Mamdani was smart to say β€œoh yeah I’ll do that!” when it neutralised his opponents’ attack and really means nothing.

Abundance and the Left Ezra Klein talks with Bhaskar Sunkara about Abundance, Zohran Mamdani’s victory, and why progressives need a state that works at the speed of their ambitions.

admittedly I haven't read the book, but discussions seem to lack specifics and fall down a a vague vibey "do betterer"

Owner charged over allegedly abandoning dog Arnie after claiming he was stolen Queensland Police had been investigating the alleged theft of a vehicle and Arnie the German shepherd, from Brisbane's bayside.

there was a 50k strong petition demanding the qld government enact "arnie's law" to ratchet up jail times. and then it was revealed the car theft was a hoax and the perpetrator was the owner

CSIRO 350 job cuts a damning indictment on Government priorities, misses 'golden opportunity' on research The announcement this week that CSIRO are to cut 350 research jobs is another damning indictment on Australia’s ongoing failure to prioritise research and development.

I seriously cannot get over how stupid it is to be cutting back on research right now #ThePoint

And many disabled people feel that it's not safe for them to move in with a lover, or to marry as the loss of independent basic income can make them incredibly vulnerable, especially if they lose DSP entirely, and would be required to apply again from scratch in the event of a split.
