It's 100% my fault for trying to go all in with Frames on this project without fully understanding them.

What I wanted out of Frames was setting background, border etc. In a group I have to use a shape for that and change the size of the shape does not change the position of the contents of the group. Since it's not a Frame they stay pinned to the parent Frame, which is then behavior I wanted.

I will stick with groups internally and only convert to Frames when the design starts to solidify so I can continue to be messy.

So now that I am rememebering that, you are correct that pinning default would not be a solution because the parent and the child are the same thing. I was forgetting that the parent is a Frame too and not an Artboard with its own set of properties.

Sorry, I have not had these things right in front of me for a few days, so I am not articulating it very well.

I guess elements pinned to the parent Frame (previously the artboard) works for me. All my issues arise when I nest a frames and all the inner elements pin to it instead of the artboard.

I'm sure I'm an outlier, and I have already reverted to using groups with shapes as the background.

My original post came from frustration due to my excitement about the feature coming and then having unforeseen issues for me.

This is a bit to granular, I think the issue for me is, when I am first iterating, I am messy AF, and I feel like I have lost the freedom to be messy. Default pinning forces me to make that decision before I am ready, or removing it individually so I regain the freedom to be intentional when ready.

I also copied that element to use outside that frame visually, but forgot to move it from being a child of the frame, so when I moved the frame it came with.

In that example, and I only have examples from one project so far, in the article card, I moved the 'category' to the bottom left of the box not realizing it was still pinned and changed just the top padding and it got pushed out of view and I did not movie for a while.

Side note, not trying to be tick-tisk-y about accessibility, I have developed a number of bilingual sites in the past and am in the process of converting all my old sites from using left, right to inline-start, inline-end, so its just on my mind lately.

But allowing default pinning to none, or something else would be awesome for me, and probably more inclusive for designers working in languages that are not ltr.

I can see someone working in a rtl language to want to pin top right instead.

Then after an hour of working on an element, I decide the padding needs to change, thats when this happens.

Sorry for the confusion, I missed the part where I was already trying to adapt and the issue was cause by human error.

I want the freedom to expand the boundaries of the element, even the top left corner, without the inner elements moving. So to work with the new system I am trying to get in the habit of turning pinning off as soon as I add an element, but I get into the flow and sometimes I miss a few.

(Still Yann just from another account) The main use-case I was excited about was to use a frame as a group with a background color. But early in a design I have no idea what type of padding I might be used. So maybe I am working on a header, menu, article card, , footer, anything with a background.

I spent about an hour trying that and other remapping alternatives. For some reason, Convert to Stack would still trigger, even if I remapped it. But thats a MacOS issue and not on you, but thats why I abandoned trying to remap.

Yeah, I realized it still might be useful, but I don't need the full Linktree UI if I don't have to update it often. And if I don't need that, then they don't need my click data, so I just made my own: card.3n.design

Just went down a rabbit hole looking for a self-hosted linktree alternative, but then realized if I plan to leave instagram do I even need one?

The whole point of linktree was that Instagram is hostile to link, does linktree have any other use?
