Let the audience choose some of the gala invitees Give the public a voice.

I've been meaning to do it for some time and finally got around to it. If you also believe the ISU should let the audience choose some of the gala invitees, fill in the form and share it so that more people can see it. ⛸️

As much as I would have loved for Miniki taking home gold, RikuRyu were just a class of their own

Based on those practise notes, it rarely is clean, so let's hope the tech panel + judges remember their job description

The media merely picked up a golden goose that had been served to them on a golden platter.

I do, however, have a problem with solely framing the media for the pressure that was put on Ilia. He and his team originally branded him as the "Quadgod" - that moniker in itself evokes expectations. Expectations he fulfilled early on, so the USFSA happily jumped onto that bandwagon.

I don't argue with the latter because we've seen that for a while, especially with Yuma. His father even admitted in an interview that he pressured his son to up his technical content to take Ilia from behind.

I've come across a few sports mental health sites that argued the way the media positioned Ilia as the de facto gold medalist ahead of the Games placed unnecessary mental stress on both him and his opponents.

people will eventually move on to new things. In addition, it just adds unnecessary pressure, hence why I made the personal decisions to hold off from any promotional activities until my WIP is at a stage where I can see the end.

I come across quite a few, new accounts on Instagram and TikTok who invite users to follow them as they write their very first novel. From a marketing standpoint, it's sensible to start early, but if you don't have a specific time frame in mind when the book is finished, there's a good chance

This is just my personal opinion, but writing for oneself is far healthier than with a specific targeting audience in mind. After all, you're the one who has to spend months if not years with that project (I'm currently on year 4 with mine). As for promoting the project on social media etc.

That's less of a concern to me since I have a background in marketing - but I get why it might seem daunting to others.

I generally prefer the idea of self-publishing, but the mere idea of distribution, especially when you're located in a non-English speaking country writing for an English-speaking audience, gives me anxiety

Yet the programme my friends/family deemed the most artistically pleasing to watch was Deniss' (despite visibly being under the weather) - only one of two skaters who didn't show any quads...

Both terms carry the word 'art' in their name.
Aside from pushing quads for years, the ISU additionally legalised a 'jump' that - at its worst outcome - risks breaking a skaters neck. All in the name of attracting new viewers.

risked falling on still gave him more points than a clean, safe programme with jumps he could all land.
Figure skating gets its name from the figures that were abolished following the 89/90 season. In German, the sport is called EisKUNSTlauf; in French patinage ARTISTIQUE.

they asked why skaters go for jumps they can't land.
Because that's what the system rewards; that's what the system tells young skaters: if you want to be on top, you must rotate four times - multiple times.
If I remember correctly, Valter Virtanen said, putting in a 4T he underrotated and

I watched the men's FS last night with some friends/family last night who rarely pay attention to figure skating. The first thing one of them said after Deniss' skate was, "What an artist!"
After the competition, after witnessing countless falls from quads,

@ Kristal Ice: Deniss doesn’t need schemes – his results and fan reception over the past +15 years speak for themselves. Shame on you! ⛸️

What annoys me about the men in particular is that Donovan basically made the same mistake a few days later (someone even made a side-by-side comparison), but of course, he gets penalised... which is part of the reason why I find it hard to have any sympathy for the current discourse in Ice Dance.

Unpopular opinion: I would probably care much more about the outcry re certain pairs' scores had we seen similar widespread reactions in the men's events. But hey, I guess as long as a corrupt system benefits one country it's perfectly OK - until it turns against them 🤷‍♀️

#writersCoffeeClub 13/2: Do you use maps as reference materials?
Yes. Quite frankly, it's a pet peeve of mine when authors don't use them and just make up distances and travel times for real world places - especially in today's day and age.

This is just my personal opinion with a bit of distance and a few more years under my belt, but I'm generally referring to the America-is-the-best-pathos, the glorification of the military and their wars etc. Might be that Bones is simply a product of it's time, then again it's not unheard of that

11.02.2026 20:49 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 2    📌 0

I used to love Bones, primarily because I had devoured Kathy Reichs books. It's been ages since I last rewatched the series, yet watching it now - years later - and in light of everything that's currently happening, the propaganda the series is pushing makes it almost impossible to enjoy...

I tend to only watch the skaters I'm interested in and then turn off the stream so I don't have to follow the clownery of a judging live.
