so i might have joined the homestuck fandom at a weird time huh

opened this app with my mom right next to me in the car, just to see the fattest cock on my timeline. i love this app

overall, i really enjoyed homestuck. it definitely had its ups and downs, and i can’t say it’s my absolute favorite piece of media ever, but i think it was good!!! i can now say i’ve read homestuck, and honestly that’s kinda all i was hoping to achieve fiskvkrkx

a good example of this imo is the whole thing with vriska and meenah. they gave vriska SO MUCH CHARACTER DEVELOPMENT and then just. abandoned her. and we never saw that vriska again, except with the whole scene with terezi. it’s just. augh. so goddamn frustrating.

also, when they DID switch back, at that point i had stopped caring about that plotline, and focused my attention on the one they had just switched to, meaning they most likely AGAIN abandoned that line just when it was getting good.

it would then take like 500 or more pages just to get back on that plotline, and sometimes they would just abandon it altogether!!!!! like they’d just mention it in passing later like it wasn’t important.

the “jumping around” in the story (don’t know how else to describe it): this was by far the most infuriating thing about homestuck for me. they’d set up an interesting plotline, develop it a bit, and then for literally no reason they’d switch to a different one.

it genuinely took me a few days to get through the first intermission because i just. did. NOT care 😭 even if some of those characters ended up being important later

filler: the filler. oh my GOD the filler. it’s so much worse than steven universe, somehow. i genuinely feel like it could be a few thousand pages shorter and still keep most of the important stuff.

the bad:

games: i actually enjoyed the interactive segments far less than the regular comic. they felt a bit tedious if i’m being honest. i liked them, yeah, but walking around and read text for half an hour is. well, it gets tiring after a certain point.

the “choose your own adventure” screens: they felt very pointless, tbh. i went through them all as linearly as i could anyway. i would’ve preferred if they just laid it out in a linear fashion, the menus felt pretty much entirely pointless

i really think they should’ve focused mainly on developing the original 12, and giving them full and complete character arcs, which they didn’t for most of them.

the typing quirks are fun, but they definitely limit readability, which is kinda an issue in a 8000 page comic 😭. i think when the 12 ancestors were introduced and all the ghost stuff happened is where they lost me with the trolls, tbh.

trolls: so, i have a lot of feelings about these guys. i think about half of the original 12 i really like (karkat, terezi, tavros, nepeta, kanaya, and (to a certain extent) vriska and equius) while the rest i don’t really care for.

the fact that they weren’t resolved at all makes me question why they were even there in the first place, tbh, but oh well. overall, the ending was good, and tied up a lot of the plot pretty well, aside from those unfinished arcs.

ending: i think the ending is mostly pretty good and conclusive, but it definitely has some issues. there were so many unfinished character arcs that i feel could’ve had resolutions.

it felt like it couldn’t keep on a plotline for more than 15 panels, it has worse adhd than me ffs. it just felt like the entire story was very drawn out, and it had too many sideplots for its own good.

pacing: this is probably obvious to anyone who reads any amount of the comic, but homestuck throws a LOT of shit at you, basically constantly, and it’s *very* hard to keep up with. for at least like a third of the comic i had no idea what was happening.

the meh/neutral/mixed:

worldbuilding: i am an absolute *sucker* for lore, and homestuck did NOT disappoint. from the bits about the game, to the trolls, to whatever the fuck time shenanigans are happening at any given time, i LOVE it (although at some points it did become a bit overbearing)

music: i mean, it’s toby fox, he’s the reason i started reading it in the first place, what did you expect. oh, and some other people worked on the ost too, i guess. but TONY FOX!!!!
