Everyone seems to be framing Trump's freeze on federal grants as a Constitutional fight over powers of the purse & whether presidents can disregard Congressional appropriations. It is that. But also at stake is the fundamental validity of government contracts! I see much less discussion on this... 🧡

As we've said on @strictscrutiny.bsky.social, limits on executive authority are only for Democrats.

I don't know if people who haven't worked in the public sector are aware that the category "things substantially funded by federal grant money" includes more or less everything

This matters. Not because I think Trump is capable of mercy or empathy towards these vulnerable groups. But because it is a public act of defiance.

Contrast that with all these other powerful people in this country signaling nothing but appeasement and obedience.

Republicans Will Regret Killing Permitting Reform They might not be worried now, but Democrats made the same mistake earlier this year.

Republicans are about to learn that governing is really fucking hard as @robinsonmeyer.bsky.social details in @heatmap.news on why they’ll regret both the death of permitting reform and the broader govt funding imbroglio. heatmap.news/politics/rep...

This is probably the most important story of year in the energy transition. ~600 gigawatts of new solar added to world grids today. That will produce ~1,000 terawatt-hours of clean electricity, or ~25% of all US electricity use or 2/3 of India's. In one year! Simply massive & it's accelerating. πŸ”ŒπŸ’‘

Sure it’s not 75 degrees year round, but DC is a pretty damn near perfect biking city with (relatively) mild weather.

+1. And backlogged interconnection queues fundamentally come down to a lack of T&D capacity.

If we want a more reliable energy system, we simply need a lot more transmission!

Musk entered this year with the second- biggest fortune in the world, at $195 billion, behind Bernard Arnault at $233 billion. He is currently worth $454.5 billion, largely as a result of $TSLA going from $220/ share in mid- October to $466/ share today, based on... nothing.

Dominion’s latest IRP has a pretty helpful breakdown. Not as speculative as you’d think (or DC companies are just preparing to drop tens of millions in broken contracts)

It has been a BUSY week in permitting reform land. The good news: from industry to progressives to Trump, everyone agrees we gotta do something NOW. Good thing we have a bipartisan, bicameral negotiated bill ready to go!

Today is the day for EPRA folks! Get those phones out and make some calls!

Hey πŸ”ŒπŸ’‘ folks! Remember last year when the good folks at Grid Strategies crunched the numbers and found that load growth had nearly doubled, from ~0.5% to 0.9%? Remember the frenzied flurry of headlines in the NYT, WaPo, etc?

Well uh… the 2024 update is in. CAGR is now up to 3.0% πŸ˜…

Few folks have as good a grasp on the energy system (and the politics & economics that underpin it) as John.

We have ~2 weeks to make this happen. Leave it all out on the field!

09.12.2024 15:57 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

I don't think you are thinking through the system impacts. Most grid failures of the past 4 years were due to over reliance on NG plants that didn't show up. Utility CEOs don't want to repeat that experience. Further, there isn't enough capacity on our existing NG grid for that much gas generation.
