Everyone seems to be framing Trump's freeze on federal grants as a Constitutional fight over powers of the purse & whether presidents can disregard Congressional appropriations. It is that. But also at stake is the fundamental validity of government contracts! I see much less discussion on this... π§΅

This matters. Not because I think Trump is capable of mercy or empathy towards these vulnerable groups. But because it is a public act of defiance.
Contrast that with all these other powerful people in this country signaling nothing but appeasement and obedience.

Republicans Will Regret Killing Permitting Reform
They might not be worried now, but Democrats made the same mistake earlier this year.
Republicans are about to learn that governing is really fucking hard as @robinsonmeyer.bsky.social details in @heatmap.news on why theyβll regret both the death of permitting reform and the broader govt funding imbroglio. heatmap.news/politics/rep...

This is probably the most important story of year in the energy transition. ~600 gigawatts of new solar added to world grids today. That will produce ~1,000 terawatt-hours of clean electricity, or ~25% of all US electricity use or 2/3 of India's. In one year! Simply massive & it's accelerating. ππ‘

+1. And backlogged interconnection queues fundamentally come down to a lack of T&D capacity.
If we want a more reliable energy system, we simply need a lot more transmission!

Musk entered this year with the second- biggest fortune in the world, at $195 billion, behind Bernard Arnault at $233 billion. He is currently worth $454.5 billion, largely as a result of $TSLA going from $220/ share in mid- October to $466/ share today, based on... nothing.

I don't think you are thinking through the system impacts. Most grid failures of the past 4 years were due to over reliance on NG plants that didn't show up. Utility CEOs don't want to repeat that experience. Further, there isn't enough capacity on our existing NG grid for that much gas generation.
