Padilla's office says he is no longer detained, and that he was in LA at the presser: "He tried to ask the Secretary a question, and was forcibly removed by federal agents, forced to the ground and handcuffed. He is not currently detained, and we are working to get additional information.”

So ICE is now more powerful than a sitting US senator? I hope every democrat congressperson stands up for their colleague and demands accountability for what happened to Alex Padilla. They won’t but I wish they would.

Please join us and the people of Los Angeles to demand the freedom of the ICE Detainees and David Huerta, who was unjustly detained and attacked:

The United Farm Workers condemns the violence against our comrade David Huerta, the President of SEIU California and SEIU-USWW, who was injured and detained while exercising his constitutional rights during an ICE raid in Los Angeles. Now more than ever, it is urgent for all working people in the United States to defend the immigrant workers who contribute so much to our country. An attack against one worker is an attack on all workers -- union and solidarity are our response. Si se puede.

The United Farm Workers, along with the entire labor movement, stands in strong solidarity with our comrade, labor leader David Huerta. We demand his immediate release and condemn indiscriminate sweeps targeting working class immigrants.
