It's the same in other industries. Depends on the individual manager and company in my experience. And how difficult someone is to replace.

my employer was brilliant when I had covid and longcovid. Long term sick leave, staged return to work, flexible when it got too much, time off to attend clinic. Repeated checks when I returned full time.
