The Filmtracks review of MI8, re: "the casting of Angela Bassett as the American president":
"[A]s the whole world is well aware, there's no chance that a distinguished and buff black woman would ever be elected to lead that bigoted country."

Today, I found a magnificent new-to-me performance of Schubert's 8th and 9th symphonies. Not sure if anybody else cares, but I love this recording.

Pink Floyd at Pompeii MCMLXXII review β mesmerically peculiar portrait of band on cusp of greatness
Gilmour, Waters, Wright and Mason are space rock whippets in the burning Italian sun in this outrageously indulgent yet vivid and beguiling music documentary
@theguardian.com writes that Pink Floyd at Pompeii is "beguilingly weird" in a way that "can only be the early 70s." Yes, that's true. It is both weird and wonderful, but all in good ways. It is also exquisitely beautiful, visually and musically.

I have set up and turned on the new computer. I haven't really set it up yet β that's coming soon β but at least it knows who I am.
I think this is the beginning of a beautiful friendship.

After a lifetime as a Windows user, I'm switching to macOS.
My old hardware still runs Win10 but won't upgrade to Win11, and for the first time ever, my employer has me on a Mac. Today, I took the plunge: I bought one of my own!
As Mr. Spock once quoted, "Angels and ministers of grace, defend us!"

A favorite artist has a new album out today, which I love. I wouldn't have known, if not for following him on Bandcamp. I looked for the usual announcement from him on Facebook, and was startled to find that he has left. Altogether.
Probably just as well, as I'm all but done posting there too.

Favorite @npr.org podcast is, of course: Wait Wait. Close second favorite is Throughline, which is astonishingly good. But why can't I find Throughline merch? I just bought a Wait Wait shirt, then looked for a Throughline shirt, and there are none to be had! NPR, this is a tragic missed opportunity!

Captain America: Brave New World: good (not great, but good) movie, better than the reviews I've read. Not a fan of the score, however.
