I’m gonna need to watch that documentary again.

Over the last several years, I’ve slowly moved through Morrison’s novels (currently in the midst of one now), and I’ve really cherished her use of language to draw me in & review my preconceptions, always pulling at me, engaging me, challenging me to see myself in new ways so I can then see others.

“To read Morrison herself with the seriousness that she deserves requires that we account for the knot – or bind – of gender and race she shared with them.”

I’d rather wait in line for Courage Bagels during peak hours in full sun.

It’s not right that “inside-out” and “outside-in” are the same thing and not opposites.

We need to spend some real, quality time looking in the mirror before shouting out through the window. The more time spent in front of the mirror, the less that window matters.

(To clarify, Q was nominated, but not as the Composer—more as a ringleader of a consortium of co-writers and collaborators. In other words, a practice still done today that garners other composers solo noms that was denied to him on a technicality that hadn’t been applied to others. I wonder why?)

Williams famously didn’t score THE COLOR PURPLE, the 1st Spielberg film w/o him. Quincy Jones oversaw the scoring instead & deserved an Oscar he controversially didn’t even get nom’d for.

Finally catching up on Grammys speeches. It’s nice that big name artists have some political stances to share, but how about putting it into your music too? We need protest music on the charts now more than ever.

I’ve been lucky enough to stay at the ranch multiple times, and I still consider it one of my favorite places in the world. You can feel the magic there like it’s a kind of humidity. Lake Ewok!

Apple has become my favorite go-to streamer for this very reason. Overall they’ve dependably allowed time for shows to find & grow its audience. But their terms to outside production companies are also stricter, so making financial sense is a bit more challenging. Thanks for fighting the good fight!

I’ll be shocked—SHOCKED—if LOTR or House of the Dragon get 4th seasons unless they reeealllly do something big that gets everyone talking. These shows are too expensive to produce, and no executive actually cares about quality or incremental increases in ratings.
