Is SF gonna remain the only opposition party capable of forming a non FG/FF government, or is it more likely that the two will split and one will form another coalition?

Yeah I get that, it just appears Ireland has avoided the type of politics that engulfing, say, France right now and would be in a lot worse shape than if it hadn’t
04.12.2024 08:40 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0And several extremely tense elections in other European countries in that time. Ireland has just had various flavours of FG/FF.
03.12.2024 12:29 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0All have had elections that have been perceived as “saving democracy,” or “rescuing the country from the brink.” Ireland has had the same people roughly and same electoral forces competing with really similar results since 2016. Think we’ve had two Trump election wins, a British hung parliament
03.12.2024 12:29 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0I know it’s not the kind of stability you would want policy wise, but their collective ability to provide the same party and parties in government over an extremely turbulent period is astonishing. Think about the instability in the UK, US, France, Germany, Italy, and Poland in the same period

02.12.2024 23:29 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 07. The voters obviously want a left wing alternative, and maybe this might be better done by the SDs than Labour, PBP-S, or SF. If the SDs stay in opposition and present a coherent alternative, they maybe in a really good place to absorb votes and potentially position themselves well for 29.
02.12.2024 23:00 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 06. I understand that the SDs and Labour insist they have lots of differences, but a lot of this is due to the Labour brand being tarnished. This is the first election since 07 they’ve gained votes, and as I’ve mentioned, I think the SDs have had a lot to do with this.
02.12.2024 23:00 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 05. Whatever the circumstances, the SDs should go nowhere near government. With 22 centre left TDs, voters will look for other avenues, especially with the concept that SF might never be accepted by enough of the electorate to govern. Labour have done well, yes, but I think lots of this is due to SDs
02.12.2024 23:00 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 04. The Soc Dems are a real force to be reckoned with. They massively outperformed expectations (even generous predictions had them at 6 or 7 seats), and their success has had a positive impact on Labour and insulated PBP-S (to a lesser extent). Holly Cairns had a good campaign, but…
02.12.2024 23:00 — 👍 1 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 03. We may have hit peak SF, and the prospect for a centre left government is quite distant but not impossible by the next general election. Someone on the left will take their place, leading me to the real winners of this election.
02.12.2024 23:00 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 02. This is not a good position for them to be in. They’re setting themselves up for a government between the two of them and Indies, with no lightning rod. Independents will come and go individually, but others will take their place.
02.12.2024 23:00 — 👍 2 🔁 0 💬 1 📌 0Thoughts on the #GE24 result:
1. FF/FG are now, essentially, one party occupying most of the country. The scale of the transfers between them shows that they’re working in tandem - if this is a shot to anyone. They’re heading towards another government and should be given credit for the stability.
I’m in.
