It was a pleasure to launch my Buaile exhibit in Creative Places Tipperary Town yesterday evening. Thanks to all who came, I really enjoyed chatting with friends, family and local history enthusiasts.

The exhibit is showing every Wednesday, Thursday and Saturday from 12-4pm through August.

My "Buaile" series will be exhibited for the first time in Tipperary town for the month of August, with a launch next Friday 1st August at 6pm.

If you're in the area and fancy some historical obscurities of a Friday evening, do come along!

You need to adjust shipping prices to the EU by roughly 75% - it won't cost you 40 dollars to post this to me

A fence separates an area of open mountain from an area of woodland. The fence posts are half rotten, the fence makeshift and undulating across the sloped land.

In the centre of the image there is a small roundish hut with low ruined walls totally overgrown in brown mountain grass. There are low hills in the background and gloomy grey clouds despite the sun.

Booley hut disguised in overgrowth.

Located in Boolakennedy, Eastern Galtees. Those who enjoy the history of place names will be interested to know it's an anglicisation of the Irish "Buaile UΓ ChinnΓ©ide" which means "Kennedy's Booley".

This well preserved booley is situated in Gaddee Glen, an off the beaten track area of the Galtee mountains. This is one of my all time favourite pictures, transcending the usual artistic self doubt.
I blogged about this hike if you'd like to read more:

Booleying is the practice of moving livestock from one grazing ground to another seasonally, generally to the uplands in summer and back to the lowlands in winter.

In my "Buaile" project, I have been making images in and around booley sites in the Galtee mountains. Read more on my website.

Sheep now dominate the Galtees where cows once grazed.

This image shows a trackway (most likely for transporting peat) bending around a grazing sheep. As well as milking, herders dabbled in other moneymaking initiatives like peat or growing potatoes, as evidenced by potato ridges & trackways.

A flock of sheep veers off a country path in Knocknagalty on the southern side of the Galtees. I live on the north side, in the Glen of Aherlow.

I was selling prints at a recent market & a local farmer stopped to chat. He said he knew from the red paint that they weren't Glen sheep. Perceptive!
