One of the things I’ve realized in years (somehow, years?) of listening to folks talk about their work, is that the thing people don’t realize is how much time it takes — not just in workflow, but in all the hours (accrued over months, years, decades) that it took to hone & refine those skills. #Laracon was such a welcoming whirlwind of insightful talks, engaging chats, and inspirational brainstorms.

I think I’m going to have to dust off the ol’ code streaming setup to make use of some of this post conference energy and really dive into #Laravel!

After my first day at #Laracon my brain is buzzing with possibilities as I try to get to sleep. So many wonderful people and tools in one ecosystem, and one great talk after another!

Can’t wait to see what tomorrow holds.

I have saved my own ass, on multiple occasions, with code comments like...

The reason you might want your code to be understandable and commented even if only you are working on it is the future you in 1 year or 10 years might need to modify/reuse it. Also if you ever need to hand it to a porter you want them to understand it.

Just bring back translucent consoles and controllers, please.

You don't necessarily need to say "image of" in your alt text for users to know it's an image. Screen readers will announce that it's an image. But it can help readers to specify if it's a hand-drawn image, Polaroid, infographic, screenshot, chart, map, diagram, or so on.

I wrote some ~weekend words~ on why you shouldn't allow AI access to your email, calendar, or any other of your most private data. This may seem obvious to some, but perhaps not to others: the privacy and security risks just aren't worth it.
