& I try to impress upon my trainees who work in cafes the importance of communication β€” almost no customers know a good barista is paying attention to brew times, adjusting the grinder as things fluctuate & how that affects the taste of their drink, let alone the specifics to get microfoam.

I sometimes lead barista trainings for people who have a fancy little La Marzocco or maybe a Breville espresso machine in their home or office. I hear so much of "wow a lot more goes into this than I thought."

basically every 2024 truism is dead. Trump did not build a lasting multiracial coalition or turn young men into committed Republicans. You don’t need to cave on trans rights to win. The pundits have nothing left to tell you.

We wouldn't want any facts getting in the way of the narrative, now, would we?

Oh good point. I graduated Penn undergrad in 2008 but don't seem to have been on any GSE email lists.

Fire The Consultants The Democratic party must move on from the same old stale, carefully poll-tested politics and get back to solving voters' problems. There are only three certainties in life: death, taxes, and Democra...

For my newsletter, I took a deeper look at the electoral record of WelcomePAC, a centrist group that produced that 352 page document advising Democrats to moderate once again.

Turns out the campaigns they work for aren't winning. www.burnsnotice.com/fire-the-con...

Is there anyone more pro-cop in Congress than Swalwell? I don't think so and he's running around saying vote for us and we'll unmask ICE. And this doesn't strike others as proof that this reformist reform is useless????

i keep saying this but what i hate most about the ezra kleins of the world is their insistence is that politics is about messaging and triangulating. its never about offering a compelling vision of the world, its about trying desperately to capitulate to whatever moment we are in

Special thanks to all the worms in politics and media who tried to sell us β€œuniversally beloved saint Charlie Kirk” over the last few days. Sorry you failed but 1) not nearly as many people know him as you thought / hoped 2) he was deeply racist, like on a KKK level, and that’s kinda off-putting

Ezra-

Your piece on the death of Charlie Kirk was reckless, insulting, condescending, and worst of all, a piece of hagiography. For someone who claims to honor history and context in your work, it reads as if it was written by someone who respects neither of those things.Β

What does it mean to practice politics in the "right way"? For whom does a "taste for disagreement" benefit? Certainly not the vulnerable populationsβ€”trans people, Black women, and moreβ€”who Kirk routinely targeted with hate speech and calls for violence.Β

When I was a college intern at NBC News Washington in 2008, I would watch your MSNBC appearances on the monitor in our office. At that point I could only dream of having a platform like yours, which has grown exponentially since then. Now that I have a platform (albeit it much, much smaller than yours) and I couldn't fathom using it to gaslight the country into believing a hateful man stood for a public good. Maybe it's time to consider how you're using yours.Β

I don't really know what the wine would be like (assuming it's actually from this area like my hunch, we'd have to ask a wine historian) but the country was known for darkly pigmented, high alcohol red wines of Rhone blends / Carignan πŸ€”

Algerian wine - Wikipedia

Menerville seems to be the name for ThΓ©nia, Algeria, under French occupation. During the time of this gala, it seems Algeria was the largest wine producer in the world en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Algeria...

I want a politics that widens the circle to include everyone, not one that shrinks the circle by throwing *undesirables* under the bus. I think this is basic. I am interested in a politics that is rooted at the sources of people's suffering. I am interested in a politics that attends to basic needs.

I do wish people would treat transphobia as the serious red flag it is, because if someone is repeating bullshit pseudoscience talking points from right wing cranks, that's just as bad as conceding to anti-vax nonsense and undermining trust in science and medicine, alarm bells should be sounding!
