My psychotic brother, with whom I’ve had no contact for at least 15 years, lives in Portland. Every time I see pictures of that frog, I’m positive it’s him. I know it’s not, but it’s totally something he would do. Imagine explaining those pics to a history class someday. This timeline is nuts.

So much love sent your way. We were wrecked as well. It’s so very ugly.

Just started rewatching The Vampire Diaries for spooky season, and I can’t get over all of the layered shirts. Remember, exmo ladies, when we would wear like 4 layers in the early 2000s? Shirt, lacy tank, bra, garment top… Not something I miss.

β€œHow can you teach people to love books if they only read summaries and excerpts?” Reading is not indulgent. It is not a waste of time. It is not lazy. Reading is absolutely crucial for a functioning, well informed populace. It also teaches empathy unlike almost anything else. #readingisresistance

Just got approved to review the new Kate Quinn novel, The Astral Library, and I started bawling, if you’re wondering how my ability to handle unexpected good news is today. It’s pretty bad when the bad news makes me numb but the good news turns me into a puddle. Everything is so wrong. #booksky

This. If you think that you’re being persecuted because you’re not being allowed to walk all over someone else’s belief system, then you’re the baddie. Jr high civics (a thing in the 90s) taught me that your rights end when they begin to take away the rights of another. They are not limitless.

It’s so disingenuous and does nothing but make the members who didn’t have all of the privilege that he had feel even more inadequate and unworthy. I think his presidency, however long, is going to cause a massive exodus.

We are doing Home Chef right now and I got an email today saying that they were going to have to switch out pasta options because of supply chain issues, so this checks out. 😬

So exhausted. Also I can always tell when you get home from work because my notifications blow up. πŸ˜‚ Not a complaint. It’s my daily Kemi time. πŸ˜‚

I really hate the word helpmeet. My FIL called me that once and I could not control the daggers that flew from my eyes.

I think this conference just now made it pretty clear that the membership may be changing, but the leadership absolutely is not. They’re doubling down and actually seem to be regressing. Zero belief that the leadership are going to budge at all on anything meaningful.

I think more and more this is becoming the story. My parents are/were staunch traditionalists. Now all of my siblings and their families are out. Hubs and I were very scrupulous, and took everything seriously and literally and felt like the rug had been pulled out from under us. It’s a spectrum.

But why does it feel like it’s just the women who are suffering?!? He doesn’t seem to be suffering…

Juggling a family of three, even staying home, even with money, is so much work and takes so much organization. The logistics are insane. Especially these last five years of one existential crisis after the next. To say that we should suffer more and get by with less? It’s so very insulting.

I see you. I put my husband through undergrad and then we lived on his incredibly meager grad and med school stipend while I did EVERYTHING as essentially a single mom for 15 years. I was exhausted. Now we have ample means, and I still can be home, but I gave up my aspirations and am still so tired.

Takeaway- the brethren have lost control of the members, and it’s causing them to double down and chase people out rather than adapt to a changing world. You either have to become incredibly nuanced and dissonant or stay incredibly uninformed to stay now.

Active Latter-day Saints increasingly abandoning orthodox views β€” The Salt Lake Tribune Even among active Latter-day Saints, diverse religious, social and political views are on the rise.

This feels like a giant f you to the women of the church. They weren’t listening at all. It’s like, we gave you an extra inch of shoulder, now quit your whining and go home and pop out more babies.

This drives me crazy. The refusal to understand that things that were true once upon a time just are not possible or relevant or even desired any longer (if they even were to begin with).

Last year we had a bumper crop of tomatoes that were almost ready to harvest. Like 4 varieties that we had babied all summer. One massive windstorm blew them all away. We didn’t end up with a single one. It was so demoralizing.
