A fun thing about writing comics is when you're trying to figure out the SFX for a very specific thing and so you just sit at your desk making sounds for a few minutes

There were several labels of this sort: For Adelard Took, for his VERY OWN,from Bilbo; on an umbrella. Adelard had carried off many unlabelled ones.

For DORA BAGGINS in memory of a LONG correspondence, with love from Bilbo; on a large waste-paper basket. Dora was Drogo's sister and the eldest surviving female relative of Bilbo and Frodo; she was ninety-nine, and had written reams of good advice for more than half a century. For MILO BURROWS, hoping it will be useful, from B.B.; on a gold pen and ink-bottle. Milo never answered letters. For ANGELICA'S use, from Uncle Bilbo; on a round convex mirror. She was a young Baggins, and too obviously considered her face shapely. For the collection of HUGO BRACEGIRDLE, from a contributor; on an (empty) book-case. Hugo was a great borrower of books, and worse than usual at returning them. For LOBELIA SACKVILLE-BAGGINS, as a PRESENT; on a case of silver spoons. Bilbo believed that she had acquired a good many of his spoons, while he was away on his former journey. Lobelia knew that quite well. When she arrived later in the day, she took the point at once, but she also took the spoons.

Every single study that gives cash to homeless folks dramatically reduces homelessness and is staggeringly less costly than incarceration and institutionalization.

Also: writing is a skill not a magic power. It’s furniture building, not communing with the muses. Settle down and just do the work, enjoy it, and stop trying to pretend it’s some deep magical power. It’s a craft. A fun challenging one! But a craft. Relax.

As a 90s kid, I was a hUGe Pokemon fan and honestly, still am for the most part. X) My earliest OCs and little comics *were* based on little Pokemon AUs, so gotta tip my hat to Red/Blue and the KidsWB dub for spawning a thousand drawings as a kid 🎨 #kidlit #kidlitart

A programming suggestion for my fellow school librarians. Every winter break I offer book bundles for students and educators. They fill out a form then I pull 3 related books, gift wrap them, and deliver them to each person. It's hella popular and great for collection development.

Comics writers and artists — please request your favorite colorists and letterers when working on a new project with a publisher. Can’t hurt to ask. (And if you don’t really care who letters/colors your work…that’s disappointing on a lot of levels.)

if you're one person making a comic by yourself, don't treat yourself like you should function on the same level as comics that have multiple people working on them. your backgrounds can be squiggles and colors.

allow yourself room to be abstract with details and give yourself some grace

:') I've been sitting on a comic idea since 2023 and I am finally forcing myself to stop living in the "oooo concept art stage" and start writing and thumbing pages. I got an outline that I hope to send to some kind beta readers SOON. BUT i also am proud of the time spent in concept art land, haha
