Several days ago, I was amused to see a construction excavator decorated with garlands and fauna. Perhaps done by a Hindu worker celebrating Dusshra.

I wanted to get a video of this ghost crab but every time I got close to their hole they scuttled back in, so I tried getting clever with it. I made a little sandcastle and shoved my phone into it, hit record, and walked away. Crab was VERY suspicious of this addition to their environment.

Working to save this 2 million year-old species of fish and the tiny desert stream that is its only remaining habitat.

There are more than 5,500 species of lizards, so we could've made this much longer.

The snake brittle star up to a foot in length across. It is a reddish brown colour and being held on a gloved hand (for safety).

Meet Ophiopsammus maculata, the snake brittle star. Thought to be a scavenger and an ambush predator, it can capture and feed on fast prey including squat lobsters. It either doesn't predate humans, or is such a successful predator nobody has ever survived to tell the tale. We can never know.
