In order to receive Operation Lone Star grants, Texas counties had to walk Gov. Abbott's political line on a "border disaster."

I haven't been able to post about the horrors in TX over the last weekend. There's something that hits differently about tragedies when you have a kid.

Kerr County asked Texas for help multiple times in 8 years. It said no. Kerr County and the Upper Guadalupe River Authority have tried several times to get funding to upgrade flood alerts on the river, dating back to 2016.

Absolutely infuriating.

Three times since 2016 Kerr County ahs asked the Texas Dept. of Emergency Management (TDEM) for a $1 million flood alert program and were denied each time.

Meanwhile, TDEM has spent hundreds of millions on "border security" boondoggle contracts under Op. Lone Star.

Military documents confirm that the LA operation today was a “show of presence” intended to send a message to LA residents about the power of the federal government.

After staging with armed soldiers and Border Patrol agents on horse, they packed up and left after a short walk.

I feel like people are forgetting the Trump administration stripped hundreds of thousands of people of legal status and work permits. That is probably playing a measurable role in this.

What is shown in the picture is a long tent structure, about 50 feet wide. There is a corridor running down the middle. On each side are three rows of bunk beds. The bunk beds are sectioned off into cells which are constructed out of chain link fence, with chain link on the ceiling as well, making each cell a literal cage. It looks to me like each cell contains 9 bunk beds, so has capacity for 18 people each.

Literal cages. Not even metaphorical ones. Literal ones.

This proposal cuts off people making between $15,650 and $20,800. It's honestly insane to think people can afford health care and housing on that income...
