Actually hadn't realized how far east Peru sits compared to Canada.
I'm full of regret for not attending the Involve conference in ลtautahi this week, Aotearoa's biannual youth development and youth health gathering. Watching all my youth sector friends gathering in one place has me feeling like I missed out big time.
08.08.2025 07:19 โ ๐ 5 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I may be an asshole but every time I see one of those Magic Eye images on social media I always comment "whoa it's a sailboat cool!" even if it's something like a duck.
03.08.2025 02:59 โ ๐ 10 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I randomly thought about them the other day because they were very kind to my 20 year old aspiring activist directionless self and I sometimes wonder what they're up to these days.

Anti war activists - we did some actions targeting Helen Clark

I was wondering as well, because initially when I checked my details it came back saying I wasn't listed but when I went back and used the address field selecting the unique way my address was listed on their drop down menu it showed up.
01.08.2025 04:41 โ ๐ 4 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0A couple years ago there was a solid boom on vegan food options. My local supermarket literally had THREE different frozen vegan lasagna on offer. But over the past year it's all slowly disappeared.
I'm particularly bummed out because the frozen vegan steam buns I love seem to have also gone ๐ฅ

01.08.2025 00:32 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I recently updated my Seek profile randomly the other week and now I'm getting several cold calls each week from recruiters trying to find Nurse Practitioners for locum and permanent roles. I'm glad I'm in a high demand role but also feel like that's a bad indictment of the primary care system.
01.08.2025 00:32 โ ๐ 11 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Happy May Day. As the best sign at todayโs union protest on Lincoln Road said: Labour, protecting workers since 1916; National, undermining workers since 1936. Most health professional bodies, associations, and unions are very concerned.
The government documents are here:

It might not have made it on your radar but some sketchy things are a foot with our current coalition government looking to overhaul health professional regulatory bodies, claiming the move "puts patients first" but looks to put profit first and remove cultural competence from professional standards

We're kinda of limited further cause we were already vegan when Rom got their coeliacs diagnosis. There are some good gluten free bakeries around, Wen & Yen Bakery is rad. Venerdi is our go to bread and bun option. I prefer the brown rice pasta options for spaghetti.
29.03.2025 00:09 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Anything in particular you're after? My partner has coeliacs so I've gotten skilled at gluten free shopping, cooking, and eating.
29.03.2025 00:03 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Just attended a webinar for primary care providers about MSD support, and honestly the vibe nearly felt like neoliberalist propaganda throughout. The repeated uncritical claim of the "health benefits of employment" had negative health impacts of my appetite.

06.03.2025 08:12 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Worth noting though that Phil Goff was a member of New Zealand's left wing party before this role (and former mayor of Auckland City), and he was sacked by the most far right government we've seen in decades here. They woulda been looking for an excuse to replace him.
06.03.2025 07:28 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I don't think appropriate care planning, intervention, or even prescribing can be optimally carried out without at least the inclusion of a nursing paradigm, but in contrast to all other areas of healthcare nurses are nearly absent in primary care planning.
05.03.2025 07:30 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0It mostly boils down to the fact the GPs, while being great diagnosticians, have a deep but narrow scope of practice, where as nurses, and I mean even just registered nurses, have a much broader biopsychosocial scope which allows for more holistic assessment, and as such should lead overall care.
05.03.2025 07:30 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Transparency, I'm an NP that works in a clinic without a GP - non-profit NGO, always nurse-led even when we have GPs on the team. That's why we're so successful with our outcomes, they aren't stiffed by the narrow perspective of biomedical hegemony.
05.03.2025 07:21 โ ๐ 3 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I don't think primary care (rather than the term general practice) should be GP led tbh, I think that's a big part of the problem. But I also don't think capitalist/for profit approaches to primary care are improved by expanding ownership/profiteering to NPs.
