Like, maybe it's because I'm disabled but walking on sand sucks so much I can't comprehend enjoying walking on sand for a long period of time.

Talking to school based healthcare services colleagues about the attempt to privatize public schools, it's surprises me how few people are aware that Act is a dogmatic libertarian party that aims to privatize all public services.

General Practice, primary care, and Primary Health Care aren't interchangeable terms either btw. They're each very specific things, and I'll only advocate around Primary Health Care.

This nurse practitioner here, who's constantly advocating for expanding the role of registered nurses in Primary Health Care, is gonna have a stroke if every political party including the Greens keeps talking about "free GP visits"

In this current system tax money will just increasingly end up in the hands of shareholders. I really don't think people understand our primary care system is centered on private business and for profit organizations.

Free primary care visits (fuck this GP centric discussion) would be great IF our primary health care system wasn't an example of neoliberalism failing the people. Especially in a context where primary care clinics are rapidly being bought out by conglomerates of profiteers.

In line with this, I say on a jury for a murder-manslaughter case once, during which we heard the police arrived on scene while the injured mad was still breathing, they called an ambulance, provided ZERO first aid, 11 minutes later the ambulance arrived to a fatality.

When I arrived near the unconscious man the two who had got to him first were already on the phone to call an ambulance and asked if I could ask the police for assistance. I ran back and the cops said "oh yeah we saw him and called and ambulance already"

Cops are THE LAST people you want present in a medical emergency.
Today walking to the supermarket we passed two cops attending to a minor traffic stop, as we carried on we noticed to people approach and kneel down to check on a man who was unconscious on the ground.

The incredible part here is that the workers who cancelled their strike to deal with this crisis WERE ON STRIKE BECAUSE OF SHIT CONDITIONS AND UNDERINVESTMENT IN OUR HEALTHCARE SYSTEM

Yup there's loads of coverage quirks. Some school nurses are public health nurses employed by te Whatu ora and covered by PSA, but it varies dramatically.

Despite teachers and nurses unions both striking today, school nurses didn't have that option.

Another quirk of AoNZ nursing union coverage - school nurses who in many place are employed by the schools themselves have no union contract available to them, neither the nurses union nor the teachers union currently covers them.

The data is incredibly clear - there was been an increase in understaffed healthcare services as a result of this government's funding restrictions, despite Simeon Brown's gaslighting rhetoric. The stats are crystal clear on this fact. #Oct23Strike

There's a solid trend of nurses abandoning NZNO as soon as they qualify as nurse practitioners, heading to the non-union College of Nurses, which houses NPNZ - NZNO refused to set up a college for NPs years back and suffers the consequences ever since too.

Thing is most nurse practitioners in primary care get much better pay than NPs in Te Whatu Ora on the collective agreement, plus they see themselves as future owners/bosses half the time too, so less motivation for collective bargaining. Also loads are contracted rather than employed.

Honestly I'm always grumpy about it but I also know that nurse practitioners are part of the blame themselves.
